Custom Diamond Painting Review

This post is for the review of my first Custom Diamond Painting I did this past fall for my mom’s Christmas Present. It’s a picture of my cat Shadow, of all my pets he’s my mom’s favorite. He came to our house when my mom lived with us when he was just 10 weeks old. He was actually born on October 31st so I thought this was a great representation of who he is and he lives up to it every day.

Size: 40 x 50 cm

Site: PaintwithDiamonds.com

Cost: $37.99

Full/Part Drill: Full Square Drill

Shipping: Free

Stars: 5 Stars

The kit arrived with no issues, after a careful inventory I found everything to be included. This was my first kit from PaintwithDiamonds.com so I didn’t know what to expect.

It was a big one so I needed to hurry up and get started so I could have it completed before Christmas.

This was a tough one because of the limited colors. And because he was a black cat it made it even harder. I was very nervous that you would just see a blob of black above the pumpkin, but it actually came out great. I also normally enjoy more colorful projects they keep me more interested. So this particular project probably took me longer than normal because of that.

It is a full square drill project and it shimmered and sparkled beautifully. With this kind of picture I needed a large canvas, so be sure you order the right size for your picture. Often with Diamond Painting if there are a lot of details you want a larger project. Just be sure you give yourself plenty of shipping time, nothing is fast with these Diamond Paintings unless you are ordering them from Amazon.

There are a lot of black drills so I had to be mentally prepared for that. This turned into one of my favorite projects probably because my kitty was coming to life as I moved through it. My mom was so delighted and surprised by the gift that it was all worth it. She still can’t get over that I made it and she gets so many compliments from the staff at her facility, she lights right up when someone wants to talk about it.

I didn’t mat this one like my previous ones. I framed it behind glass, not sure if I would do that again either. I like the natural shimmer so maybe next time I just take the glass out. I bought the frame from Michael’s because I waited to the last minute to buy the frame (my mistake), it’s better to be prepared.

How to Frame Your Diamond Painting? – Many Options Available

So you’ve finished your Diamond Painting Project and you want to frame it. You will need to answer a few questions to determine which framing technique you would like to use.

Are you looking for a more finished/professional look? Are you giving it as a gift? Do you know what is on their walls already? For instance, I have nothing but black frames in my living room, so if I’m going to hang my diamond painting in there, then I would want a black frame.

Can it be more casual? Maybe on a canvas or foam board? You can even just put a matt around it and call it a day.

I’ve attached a couple of videos to help you decide.

Custom framing is very expensive and many of us don’t want to spend that kind of money on a project that probably has cost most of us very little. So keeping expenses down, I think putting it on canvas may be the most affordable way to get your project up on the wall.

Just remember to seal your project with Mod-podge before you hang it so the drills stay in place. I always roll a rolling pin over mine when I’m done then seal it twice – letting it fully dry between each application.

How have you framed your Diamond Painting? I know my readers will have some great tips for all of us.

Beginners Guide to Diamond Painting – Do you Sparkle?

Does Diamond Painting intrigue you? Is it something you want to know more about? When I saw Diamond Painting, I too was intrigued. What is this “Diamond Painting?” If you love cross-stitch, jigsaw puzzles and/or paint by number then Diamond Painting might be right up your alley.

This article will guide you through the Diamond Painting process. Step by Step, making it easy for anyone to do.

The first thing you want to do is pick out your project. I shop at Amazon.com, Paintwithdiamonds.com or Aliexpress.com, but I am sure there are other places to purchase these kits. Be sure to order the right size, if it is a detailed picture the larger the canvas the better. There are 100’s of pictures to choose from so take some time to find one that really speaks to you.

The project has been delivered and now you can’t wait to get started. What is that “pink” pencil that came with the kit? What about the little pink square/rectangle that came with it? Tweezers? What do I do with these? I’m here to answer all of your questions.

The kit should come with:

  1. Your picture stamped on the canvas, and it should be covered to protect the sticky surface. Be sure and leave that cover over the canvas.
  2. A Pink pen(it may be another color)
  3. A pink square or rectangle sticky substance enclosed in clear plastic.
  4. Drills, lots of little colorful mosaics – they may be round or square.
  5. Tweezers
  6. Small Tray with raised lines.
  7. Instructions with a Key to the Symbols = Number to the Drills.

Before you begin, ensure all the pieces are included in the kit. Match the Drill #’s to the # of packets for each color, if any are missing be sure and contact the seller so they can get it out in the mail right away. This may take a while so the sooner you do this the quicker they will come in the mail.

Roll out your canvas, you can use books to flatten it before you start to smooth it out. Some people put it between their mattresses, it seems to work great too. Roll it out and used masking tape to tape it to the table. You can also tape it to a piece of cardboard, something that can be removed easily if you need to use the table.

I like to organize all the colors into little plastic holders so they are ready to go and easy to find. If you don’t have the little containers then you can just put them in order so they will be easy to find.

The pink pen has a hollow point. You will use the wax like pink substance to fill in that hollow chamber in the pen. Just dab the pen a couple of times into the wax like substance, once filled it will leave a sticky end to the pen. Some kits come with a special wax pencil that you have to sharpen instead. In this case, sharpen the pencil using a pencil sharpener. Some pens will have a wide end too, which you can use to pick up to three crystals at one time.

Peel back a small part of the corner you would like to start with,I like to start with 2 to 3 inches. What is the symbol in the corner? Find the symbol on the Key, once you have the number find the corresponding drills.

Pour a few of the drills into the tray. Using the pink pen filled with the wax substance be sure the drill is shiny side up (flat side down), put the point of the pen on the drill and set it on the little square on the canvas. You just laid your first drill!! Congrats!

I like to complete one section at a time. I like to tear sections in the top cover, once I finish that section I move on to another section. This keeps the project clean and free of dirt and dust.

I also like to use a lighted board under my projects, it helps you read the small squares. It plugs into my computer and once I started using it, I can never go back to an unlit service.

When I am half way done, I measure the picture part of the canvas and then order a frame and/or matt for the finished product.

When the product is finished I use a rolling pin to ensure the drills are sticking to the canvas. I then take the canvas into the garage or outdoors and spray it with an adhesive to ensure it is sealed. Once it has completely dried I then frame the picture.

Many suggest taking the glass out of the frame as it dulls the sparkle of the Diamond Painting.

Is there anything I missed? Suggestions? I will add details as they are provided. Best of Luck with your Diamond Painting!! I know it will be something you love doing and will continue to do them.

Review Batman Diamond Painting – The Dark Knight Sparkled

This post is for the review of the Batman Diamond Painting I did this past summer. I was doing this for one of my son’s friend. He has been fascinated with these since I started and asked if I would do one for him. How could I say no? Of course I couldn’t.

Size: 50 x 60 cm

Site: Aliexpress.com

Cost: $26.18

Full/Part Drill: Full Square Drill

Shipping: Free

Stars: 5 Stars

The kit arrived with no issues, after a careful inventory I found everything to be included. This was a good thing because when you order from Aliexpress, although the prices are great and the shipping is free it takes awhile to get to you.

It was a big one so I needed to hurry up and get started so I could have it completed before he went away to college.

This was a tough one because of the limited colors. I normally enjoy more colorful projects it keeps me interested. So this particular project probably took me longer than normal because of that.

It is a full square drill project and it shimmered and sparkled beautifully. Just be sure you give yourself plenty of shipping time, nothing is fast when it comes from Aliexpress.

There are a lot of black drills so be mentally prepared for that. This definitely wasn’t my favorite project but I enjoyed the final product and the look on my son’s friend’s face when I gave it to him was priceless. He is a huge Batman fan and he was absolutely amazed by the picture.

I matted the canvas with a black matt I ordered from Amazon, but honestly a white frame may have looked ok too and if you can find a florescent yellow that would be even better.

If you have never done Diamond Painting please head over to my instructions page, it provides a step by step on how to complete it.

Review Grumpy and Dopey Diamond Painting

Who Doesn’t LOVE Disney?!?!?

This article is a review of the Grumpy and Dopey Diamond Painting. I finished this project last December to give to my husband for Christmas. He adores Grumpy and it truly is his favorite Disney character.

Size: 50 x 60 cm

Site: Aliexpress.com

Cost: $24.10

Full/Part Drill: Full Square Drill

Shipping: Free

Stars: 5 Stars

This particular project was ordered through Aliexpress.com, be sure and give yourself extra shipping time – although it is free it is coming from China and will take a while to get to you.

The project was a full square drill process which means the little mosaics were square and filled in the entire canvas versus one that comes with the canvas is pre-stamped and requires no drills or the round drills that don’t fill the entire spot.

It’s important to inspect the content of your new project even if you won’t be working on it for awhile. Be sure all of your drills are included along with your “color key”. If you find anything missing contact Aliexpress.com right away and they will send you the replacement colors or parts. They are very good about this but it does take extra time so you will want to inspect it as soon as possible.

My project came with all the elements to complete the project with nothing missing. I did order the orange mat to help frame it at the end ahead of time so I would have everything I needed to complete the project when I was finished. I really think the orange makes it pop.

I new I was cutting it close to finish before Christmas so I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed so when the project was done I could wrap it up and put it under the tree with nothing slowing me down.

I can’t give you an exact time of how long it took me to finish, but I would definitely give it lots of time unless you can work on it for 8 hours a day, which I can’t(that would be nice though HA!).

The finished project was clear and bright and sparkled beautifully. I made sure I ordered a big enough one so nothing would be blurred or unable to make out. It really was a beautiful piece.

My husband loved it and he has it hanging in our bedroom on his side of the bed.

I would definitely not hesitate to order it again if someone wanted it.

If you need help with your Diamond Painting, please check out my instructions page for further assistance.

Have you done this one? If so, how long did it take you? What size did you complete? Would you do it again?

Star Wars Diamond Painting Review – This One’s a Keeper

Today I wanted to write a review on the first Star Wars Diamond Painting I did. It was a large project and although I was extremely intimidated by it I couldn’t wait to get started. I hope my review below will help some of you when you are getting ready to start your next Star Wars project.

Size: 45 x 60 cm

Price: $21.86

Full/Part Drill: Full Square Drill

Where: AliExpress (with many size choices)

Shipping: Free

My daughter is a HUGE Star Wars fan so I made her this for Christmas last year. I was laid off so I had time to work on it and it also saved me money towards gifts since things were pretty tight.

I am not sure how long the average Diamond Painting projects are taking for folks and for most of us we can’t work on it 8 hours a day so I will say this took me quite awhile. I will have to start keeping track how long it takes me going forward, I didn’t realize I would be starting a blog about the crafts I do. I will say it probably took me 3 to 4 weeks, working on it a few hours a day. My job at the time was looking for a job so I would spend about 7 hours a day doing that and then once I closed the computer down and after dinner I would usually start my crafts.

Relaxing

I found this to really help with my stress factors. When I was feeling very frustrated with the job search process and the lack of calls I was receiving I always felt better after I worked on my Diamond Painting project. This can be a great way to reduce stress and get your mind off stressful things going on around you.

Where Did I Purchase This:

I ordered this one from AliExpress and even though it’s coming from China it came pretty quickly. It’s also a Full Square Drill, which means the entire picture had to be filled in and it was the square drill vs the round drills. I do like the square drills better, they fill everything in nicely. The important part of this particular project is the size you get, it needs to be pretty big or you won’t be able to make out some of the characters.

The colors are bright and shiny and the whole thing kept me on the edge as it came together. I just couldn’t wait to finish it.

Have you done any of the Star Wars Diamond Painting? I would love to hear which ones were your favorites and if you would recommend them? If you have never done a Diamond Painting, visit our page to learn how to Paint with Diamonds.

Check out this project and many others at Paint with Diamonds website or click here for AliExpress. If you do get a chance to do this project please stop back here and leave your comments on how you liked it.
